Encryption not supported on the client

Encryption not supported on the client

Problem

When the PeopleSync database is located on an SQL Server enforcing Transport Layer Security (TLS) for the connection, the following can be observed:

  • PeopleSync Frontend is unstable

  • Clients may not get updated contacts

  • Agents may fail with “Whoops,…”

In the PeopleSync Frontend error log c:\windows\temp\php_peoplesync_errors.log, the following error message can be found:

Failure while creating PDO context:SQLSTATE[08001]: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server]Encryption not supported on the client.

This has been observed with Azure SQL as database server.

Solution

This issue is caused by a bug in Microsoft ODBC Driver for SQL Server.

Please update to the most recent ODBC driver, at a minimum 17.7.2.1 or preferably update to PeopleSync release 21.2 or above.
