Exchange Folder Agent Connection Timeout

Exchange Folder Agent Connection Timeout

 Problem

Exchange Folder Agent is unable to connect. There is a connection timeout.

 Solution

Try opening the Exchange EWS URL in a brower. If it shows only after a very long time, the server may be unable to check certificate revocation lists (CRL) on the internet.

There are two solutions for this:

  1. Make sure that certification revocation lists can be accessed on the internet.

  2. Disable certificate revocation checks.

    1. In Internet Explorer, go to Internet Options > Advanced.

    2. Disable the setting “Check for publisher’s certificate revocation”.

    3. Disable the setting “Check for server certificate revocation”.

    4. Restart the server.

Disabling certificate revocation checks is a security risk, because it will no longer be possible to prevent connections to servers with revoked certificates.
