How to Move PeopleSync LDAP Instance

This article explains how to move the PeopleSync LDAP instance to a different server.

Instructions

Moving the LDAP instance consists of the following high-level steps:

  1. Install PeopleSync LDAP instance on new server.

  2. Create backup on the old server.

  3. Restore backup on the new server.

  4. Change LDAP server in PeopleSync Console

Install PeopleSync LDAP instance on new server

  1. Run the PeopleSync LDAP installer “PeopleSync LDAP Instance 1.1.1.msi” on the new server.

  2.  Complete the setup dialogs shown by the installer.

The instance data will later be replaced by restoring the backup from the old server.

Create Backup on the old server

  1. Log in on the old server.

  2. Open a command prompt with elevated permissions.

  3. Backup the PeopleSync LDAP instance by running the following command:

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\dsdbutil.exe "ac i PeopleSync-LDAP" ifm "create full c:\backup\adlds\PeopleSync-LDAP" q q
  4. Copy the file C:\backup\adlds\PeopleSync-LDAP\adamntds.dit to the new server.

Restore Backup on the new Server

  1. Log in on the new server.

  2. Stop the service PeopleSync-LDAP on the new server.

  3. Delete the contents of directory C:\Program Files\PeopleSync\LDAP\data.

  4. Copy the file adamntds.dit to C:\Program Files\PeopleSync\LDAP\data.

  5. Start the service PeopleSync-LDAP.

Change LDAP Server in PeopleSync Console

  1. Open PeopleSync Console and go to System Settings.

  2. If you are using LDAP address lists, in section “LDAP Address Lists”, change the setting “LDAP Server” to point to the new LDAP server instance.

  3. If you are using LDAP as a user directory for PeopleSync, change the setting “Hostname” in section “Directory Service” to point to the new LDAP server instance.
